The grand finale of the 2025 Commonwealth Championships witnessed a clash of giants in the heavyweight categories, with lifters from Fiji, Samoa, Australia, and India battling for supremacy.

In a historic moment for Indian weightlifting, Tushar Chaudhary delivered a stellar performance, clinching two gold medals – one in the Youth Boys (+94 kg) category and another in the Junior Men (110 kg) category. His power-packed lifts of Snatch: 125 kg and Clean & Jerk: 160 kg (Total: 285 kg) stunned the crowd and brought glory to the tricolor.

The heavyweights produced electrifying battles as Fiji’s Taniela Tuisuva Rainibogi emerged as the champion in the Senior Men’s 110 kg division, lifting a massive 365 kg total. He was closely followed by Samoa’s Jack Opeloge (357 kg) and Australia’s Jackson Roberts-Young (356 kg), making it one of the most fiercely contested finishes of the tournament.

With the curtains falling on the championship, India celebrates Tushar Chaudhary’s double gold as a symbol of the country’s rising dominance in weightlifting.

Weightlifting Arena Erupts with Power & Glory!

The stage belonged to Samoa’s powerhouse, Iuniarra Sipaia, as she demolished the competition in the Senior Women’s +86 kg category, delivering a flawless show of strength. With every lift executed to perfection, Sipaia’s golden total of 261 kg not only secured the top podium spot but also cemented her status as an unstoppable force in the region.

India’s rising star Mehak Sharma gave the performance of her career, shattering her own records with a career-best 253 kg total. Despite her heroic effort, Sharma had to settle for silver, proving once again that the rivalry at the top is fiercer than ever. Nigeria’s Taiwo Mary Osijo battled valiantly to secure the bronze with 231 kg.

But the drama didn’t end there—records were smashed in the Youth division!

New Zealand’s wonder girl Anika Falasia stormed the +77 kg Youth Girls’ category with a jaw-dropping 100 kg snatch, obliterating the previous Commonwealth Youth standard of 98 kg. With a combined 217 kg total, she wrote her name into the record books and stood tall on the podium with pure dominance. Sri Lanka’s Sewwandi Sass claimed silver with 135 kg.

The Junior Women’s +86 kg battle was a thriller of its own— Malaysia’s Siti Aqilah Farhana Binti Draman powered her way to gold (227 kg), edging past Canada’s Angel Billen by just 2 kg in a nail-biting finish. Falasia, still on fire from her Youth triumph, picked up a bronze with 217 kg, making her the breakout name of the competition.
