Tashkent, Saturday, 17th April 2021:- Padamshree Saikhom Mirabai Chanu won bronze medal in 49 kg during ongoing 2020 Asian Senior (Men & Women) Weightlifting Championships [Gold Level qualification event for Tokyo Olympic Games] at Tashkent today with a lift of 86 kg in snatch and 119 kg in clean and jerk, making a total of 205 kg.
She stood first in clean & jerk and shook the record books of Senior World, Senior Asian and Nationals.
Snatch – 86 kg
Clean & Jerk – 119 kg, new world record, new asian record and 2 new national records
Total – 205 kg – 2 new national senior records
After a gap of nearly 16 months, Saikhom Mirabai Chanu returned to International arena with a BIG BANG. She stole the show from 2 Chinese compatriots in clean & jerk event and eventually created and re-created 6 new records at International and national level.
This medal has given flying impetus to Saikhom Mirabai Chanu and place her among elite world weightlifters. She is the first Indian women weightlifter to create World and Asian records simultaneously.
