Monday, 2nd May 2022:– Harshada Sharad Garud becomes the first weightlifter to win a GOLD MEDAL during any Edition of IWF Junior World Weightlifting Championships. Indian weightlifters in the past had climbed the medal podium upto Silver medal.

SAIKHOM MIRABAI CHANU – 2013 JUNIOR WORLD WEIGHTLIFTING CHAMPIONSHIPS AT LIMA PERU – MAY 2013

Harshada Garud lifted a total weight of 153 kg and secured Gold medal in Total and Snatch event whereas a Silver medal in Clean & Jerk event.

Detailed results are as under:-

1. Harshada Garud of India                  – 70 kg + 83 kg – 153 kg

2. Bektas Cansu of Turkey                    – 65 kg + 85 kg – 150 kg

3. Hincu Teodora-Luminita of Moldova  – 67 kg + 82 kg – 149 kg

Ms. Harshada Garud expressed her happiness with the perfect achievement she scored from Heraklion along with her Coach Mr. Pramod Kumar Sharma who plays an instrumental role in guiding the athlete to the Golden podium.

I am happy that young and budding athletes of India had shown their exceptional talent during such a big event and the Gold medal at Junior World Weightlifting Championships will be stepping stone for Harshada Garud. More laurels and medals are expected in future from this girl.
