Ajith Narayana Clinches Double Bronze for India in Men’s 71 kg Category

Gandhinagar, Gujarat | May 14, 2026.

India continued its impressive campaign at the 2026 AWF Asian Senior Weightlifting Championships as Ajith Narayana delivered a remarkable performance on Day 4 of the competition, securing Bronze Medals in the Men’s 71 kg category in both the Clean & Jerk and Overall Total events.

Competing against some of Asia’s finest weightlifters, Ajith showcased exceptional strength and composure to register a total lift of 314 kg, including an outstanding 174 kg effort in Clean & Jerk, earning India a well-deserved place on the podium.

The Gold Medal in the category was won by Won Ju Ri (PRK) with a dominant total lift of 351 kg, while Jian Chen (CHN) secured the Silver Medal with an aggregate of 335 kg.

The Men’s 71 kg category is the first event to conclude on Day 4, with results from the remaining weight categories expected shortly.

Ajith Narayana’s podium finish marks another significant milestone for Indian weightlifting and reflects the growing international stature of India’s athletes on the continental stage. His achievement has added fresh momentum and inspiration to the Indian contingent competing at the championships.
