Ms. Mirabai Chanu Saikhom Wins Silver Medal at 2025 IWF Senior World Weightlifting Championships
Forde, Norway – India’s pride and Padma Shri awardee, Ms. Mirabai Chanu Saikhom, has once again brought glory to the nation by clinching the silver medal in the ongoing prestigious 2025 IWF Senior (Men & Women) World Weightlifting Championships at Forde, Norway, on 2nd October 2025.
Competing in a new body weight category for the first time at an international platform outside India, Ms. Chanu demonstrated exceptional strength and composure, registering a total lift of 199 kg — 84 kg in Snatch and 115 kg in Clean & Jerk — to earn the silver medal.
This achievement marks Ms. Chanu’s third medal at the World Championships level. She previously made history by winning the gold medal at the 2017 IWF Senior World Championships in Anaheim, USA, in the 48 kg category and Silver medal at the 2022 IWF Senior World Championships in Bagota, Colombia.
With this outstanding performance, Ms. Chanu reaffirms her status as one of the world’s leading weightlifters and continues to inspire athletes across the nation with her determination, resilience, and excellence in sport.
